He stopped an inch from the diamonds.

A miner gives up, lies down and scrolls his phone. Then the earth is cut open from the side, and you see what was on the other side of the wall.

1

The joke

Everyone has seen the drawing: a miner turns back one swing short of the diamonds. This version gives him a phone. He does not walk away, he lies down a hand's width from all of it and scrolls, grinning.

The punchline only works if the last shot is believable, so the whole prompt is built backwards from it: a side view of the ground, cut open like a real cross-section, that stays live-action instead of turning into an illustration.

2

Three shots, two cuts

One prompt, cut only where it says to. Each shot gets its own lens, camera move and second-by-second action, so the model never decides on its own when to cut.

SHOT 1 · 0.0 – 3.5s

Digging

Two hard swings, a third that barely chips the wall. He drops the pickaxe and lies down.

SHOT 2 · 3.5 – 5.6s

Scrolling

Floor-level, three-quarter view. The phone comes out and the grin arrives on cue.

SHOT 3 · 5.6 – 9.0s

The cut-away

The earth sliced open from the side, and a slow zoom out to everything he never reached.

Timings as written in the prompt. In the finished video the model held the second shot a little longer and cut to the cross-section at 6.4s.

3

The references

The miner is built as one sheet before anything moves: front, back and the face on its own, so he stays himself under the hard hat and the dirt. The pickaxe gets its own image, because the prompt keeps calling it by name.

The third reference is the ending itself. The final frame is handed over as a composition to land on at exactly nine seconds, with the two things the prompt changes about it written out.

4

The prompt

One prompt, 55 lines, 3,343 words, in 16 named sections. It maps where the diamonds may and may not be, keeps the tunnel light and the diamond glow from ever touching, and pins the zoom out so it ends on the reference frame to the tenth of a second.

THE FULL PROMPT · 70 lines
SCENE CONTEXT
An underground mine. A young man in a shirt and tie, wearing a yellow mining hard hat with a headlamp on the front, digs a narrow horizontal tunnel toward the right with a pickaxe, gives up exhausted, drops the pickaxe, lets himself sink onto the tunnel floor and lies down on his back, pulls a smartphone from his trouser pocket and happily scrolls a vertical short-video feed with one thumb, grinning at the clips while his face is lit by shifting multicolored screen light. The video then cuts to a distant, straight-on side view of the ground as if the earth were sliced open like a real cut-away. A long narrow tunnel runs in from beyond the left edge of the frame and ends on the right at a thin dirt wall. He lies on his back near the end of that tunnel, still scrolling. Countless small blue diamonds fill all the space above, below and to the right of the tunnel, a few centimeters from him. Everything stays live-action photoreal, filmed like a real location, with slow smooth cinematic camera movement throughout.

ACTIVE REFERENCES
<<<image_1>>>: young man, early 20s, slim build, yellow mining hard hat on his head with a small headlamp mounted on its front, button-up shirt, black tie, grey trousers, sweaty and dust-covered, face, hard hat, outfit and headlamp 100% match the reference.
<<<image_2>>>: pickaxe, long straight wooden handle in pale tan, dark double-sided steel head with one pointed end and one flat chisel end, 100% matches the reference.
<<<image_3>>>: composition reference for the whole final shot (5.6s to 9.0s, ending exactly on its framing at 9.0s): camera angle, framing, proportions, the man's small size in the frame, the small blue diamonds covering the space around the tunnel, and the light zones. Two changes to the reference: the tunnel does not end on the left in a closed pocket, it continues past the left edge of the frame as a long tunnel, and the man lies on his back instead of sitting. The man, clothing and props come from <<<image_1>>> and <<<image_2>>>. Everything is rendered photoreal with real materials and real depth, not in the drawing style of the reference.

LOCATION MAP
Inside the tunnel (0.0s to 5.6s): a cramped earthen passage tall enough for him to sit up in, with a dry brown compacted clay ceiling and right end, roots, pebbles and crumbly soil, loose dirt on the floor. The tunnel runs left to right, opens to darkness on the left behind the man, and ends on the right in a rough dirt face.
Final shot (5.6s to 9.0s), ending composed like <<<image_3>>>: a straight-on side view of the ground, like a real cut-away cross-section of a mine, with the camera perpendicular to the cut plane. It is fully photoreal and three-dimensional: real depth, volumetric light, real material textures, real shadows and subtle perspective in the diamond heap. The side-on view is only the camera angle.
- The tunnel is a long, narrow horizontal corridor in the lower part of the frame. It enters the frame from beyond the left edge, runs to the right and ends at about 40% of the frame width at a thin dirt wall. Its dirt floor and dirt ceiling are thin layers of real brown dirt, dry, crumbly and dark umber, with roots, pebbles and small stones, and they run straight off the left edge of the frame. The tunnel has no wall, no door and no end on the left, and the dark, empty tunnel visibly recedes into the distance past the left edge. It is not a closed pocket, not a small box and not a room. At 5.6s the tunnel is about 25% of the frame height. By 9.0s, after the zoom out, it is about 15% of the frame height.
- The man lies on his back on the tunnel floor near the right end of the tunnel, with his head toward the thin dirt wall at the right and his legs stretched out to the left along the floor. His body is about 12% of the frame width at 9.0s. The empty tunnel stretches away beyond his feet to the left, which is the way back. The pickaxe lies on the tunnel floor beside his head near the dirt wall at the right end.
- Diamonds exist only above the thin dirt ceiling of the tunnel, below its thin dirt floor, and to the right of the thin dirt wall at its end, and they fill the entire rest of the frame there, including the top edge, the right edge and the bottom edge. There are no diamonds inside the tunnel and none to the left of the man. No wide strip of brown earth appears anywhere else in the frame.
- The diamonds are thousands of small realistic blue diamonds packed tightly together. Each is a transparent icy-blue gem with a classic brilliant-cut shape, a flat top table, sharp polished facets, crisp edges and visible internal refraction. Each one is about the size of a man's fist, at a slightly different size and angle, overlapping like a real heap of gemstones, with no gaps in every moment of the zoom.
- Between the man's head and the first diamonds on the right there is a thin dirt wall only a few centimeters thick, thinner than the width of a hand, visible as a narrow brown seam. He never dug through it.
- There is exactly one smartphone in the whole scene. It is in his hand. No phone lies on the floor, the pickaxe or any other object does not glow, and no second glowing object exists anywhere.

FIRST FRAME / BLOCKING
First frame: close-up inside the tunnel. The man's face is in profile on the left third of the frame, facing right toward the dirt face, yellow hard hat on his head with the headlamp beam pointing right at the dirt face, shirt collar and black tie visible at the bottom of the frame. The <<<image_2>>> pickaxe head is raised over his right shoulder, entering the top of the frame. He is mid-motion from frame one.

FORMAT MODE
Timed multishot with three shots. Cuts only at the specified points, the camera does not cut on its own.

OPTICS
0.0s to 3.5s — 29°, close-up on face, shoulders and upper body, shallow depth of field with a soft dark background and the lit dirt face in focus.
3.5s to 5.6s — 29°, low-angle three-quarter medium close-up on his head, raised arm and phone, shallow depth of field with the face sharp and the far tunnel soft.
5.6s to 9.0s — a slow zoom out: the lens widens smoothly from 29° at 5.6s to 63° at 9.0s, rectilinear lens with natural depth and perspective.

CAMERA
0.0s to 3.5s — one continuous cinematic gimbal shot inside the tunnel, smooth and floating, at his shoulder height, in front of him and slightly to the side. The camera starts on his profile and makes a slow smooth pan to the right over the full 3.5s, rotating about 20° toward the dirt face so his swinging arms and the pickaxe move across the frame while the dirt face slides into the center. The camera dollies forward at 1 km/h during the pan. From 2.2s it tilts down smoothly about 25° as he sinks to the floor and lies back, and settles into a smooth stop as he raises the phone above his face.
3.5s HARD CUT
3.5s to 5.6s — low three-quarter angle: the camera sits at floor level beside his head, at about 45° from the direction his face is turned, so his face is seen in three-quarter view, one cheek and the hard hat brim toward camera, the far eye partly hidden by the nose line. His head is turned slightly toward the camera. The framing is off-center: his face sits on the left third of the frame, his raised arm and the phone above and right of it, and the dark tunnel ceiling and tunnel fill the right third as negative space. The camera performs a very slow push-in at 0.5 km/h combined with a gentle arc of about 8° around his head, so the near cheek and the corner of the mouth stay clearly visible. The motion is smooth and continuous.
5.6s HARD CUT
5.6s to 9.0s — real cinema camera far from the scene, perpendicular to the cut plane, level horizon. At 5.6s the frame is tighter on the man and the end of the tunnel, with the tunnel entering from the left edge and diamonds filling the rest. Then a slow, smooth, continuous zoom out over the full 3.4s, with constant speed and no sudden accelerations. The camera does not pan, tilt or roll. The frame gradually widens until it settles on the wide composition of <<<image_3>>> at exactly 9.0s, with the long tunnel running in from the left edge and the man a small figure lying near its right end. Rich tonal latitude, deep blacks holding soil detail, soft highlight roll-off on diamond glints.

ACTION
0.0s to 1.3s — he swings the pickaxe hard into the dirt face twice. Soil clumps burst off the wall and dust hits his face and shirt. He squints and breathes heavily through his mouth.
1.3s to 2.2s — the third swing is visibly weaker and barely chips the wall. Chunks crumble to the floor, his shoulders drop and his breathing gets heavier.
2.2s to 2.8s — he freezes with the pickaxe resting against the dirt and exhales long. His fingers open and the pickaxe falls to the floor. He lets his knees go, sinks down and lies back on the tunnel floor on his back, his head toward the dirt wall, legs stretched out to the left, his left hand tucked behind his head.
2.8s to 3.5s — lying on his back, he wipes his forehead with his right forearm, pulls a smartphone out of his trouser pocket with his right hand and lifts it above his face at arm's length, held upright in portrait orientation, the screen facing him.
3.5s to 5.6s — he lies relaxed on his back with the phone above his face in his right hand only, held upright in portrait orientation, his left hand behind his head and his legs stretched out. His right thumb makes a long smooth swipe across the screen once every 0.8 seconds, flicking to the next vertical video clip each time. This is scrolling a short-video feed, not typing: no keyboard, no tapping at the bottom of the screen, no text input. The screen shows bright, fast-changing, colorful vertical video clips with no readable text and no logos. His eyes follow the clips. At 3.5s his face is slack. At 4.0s a clip lands and the corners of his mouth pull up and back into a grin, upper teeth showing, cheeks lifting, the outer corners of his eyes crinkling. At 4.6s he lets out a short laugh through his nose and his chest and shoulders bounce twice. From 4.6s to 5.6s the broad relaxed grin stays on his face, his eyes are bright and amused, his thumb swipes on to the next clip, and he is clearly enjoying himself. His tie lies loose over his shoulder.
5.6s to 9.0s — straight-on side view of a real live-action scene. He lies on his back on the tunnel floor near its right end, head toward the dirt wall, legs stretched out to the left, left hand behind his head, right arm raised with one small glowing phone above his face. The headlamp beam points up along the tunnel ceiling. His thumb keeps swiping. The phone glow shifts color on his face and on the tunnel ceiling and floor around him. As the camera zooms out, he shrinks to a small figure and more and more of the diamond mass around the tunnel comes into view, a few centimeters from his head. The long dark tunnel beyond his feet continues past the left edge of the frame. Nothing else in the frame moves except the faint star-glints on the diamonds. He is still scrolling at the last frame.

PERFORMANCE
Exhaustion turning into happy, carefree distraction, shown in the muscles: chest heaving at first, then slow even breaths, shoulders loosening into the floor, forearms trembling on the last swing. Sweat beads on the temples under the hard hat brim, dirt streaks on cheeks and neck, pore-level skin realism. In shot 2 the smile is big and readable from the low three-quarter angle: the near corner of the mouth lifts high, upper teeth are visible, the near cheek bunches up under the eye, crow's feet form, and the eyes are bright and amused. The grin grows from 4.0s, peaks with a short silent laugh and a small chest bounce at 4.6s, and holds to the end of the shot. The screen reflection sits in his eyes as moving colored catch-lights and his pupils flick with each swipe. In the wide shot he reads as carefree and indifferent through posture alone: lying flat, one hand behind his head, legs stretched out and relaxed, one thumb moving. He looks like a real person with real skin and real fabric in every shot, including the wide one.

WARDROBE
Button-up shirt, black tie and grey trousers exactly as in <<<image_1>>>. The shirt is damp with sweat at the collar and chest and dusted with brown soil. The black tie hangs loose and swings with each pickaxe swing, then lies loose over his shoulder. The shirt sleeves, back and trousers collect dirt smudges from the floor, and the outfit stays the same in every shot.

PHYSICS
The pickaxe has real weight: the swing accelerates down, stops hard on impact, and the wooden handle vibrates in his grip. Brown soil breaks into crumbly clumps and fine dust that falls straight down and settles, and a little dust lands on the hard hat and shoulders. The dropped pickaxe lands with a small bounce and a puff of dust and then lies still and dark. His body settles onto the floor with real weight, kicking up a small puff of dust. The hard hat and headlamp stay fixed on his head, the hat tilted slightly back, and the beam moves with his head. The phone is a normal modern smartphone with a dark back, held steady in one hand above his face. Diamonds are solid, heavy and stationary, resting against each other under their own weight, casting real contact shadows on each other.

LIGHTING
Two separate light zones that never mix.
Zone 1, the tunnel (all tunnel shots and the tunnel in the final shot): the headlamp on the front of the hard hat is the base light, a neutral white 4500K cone along his gaze. Standing, it lights the dirt face in a hard bright circle with fast falloff to deep shadow at the edges, with dust glowing in the beam. When he lies back, the beam sweeps up and points along the tunnel ceiling, with dust glowing in it and a soft bounce falling back on his face. The long tunnel beyond his feet on the left sinks into darkness with no light source. In the first shot, soft bounce from the lit dirt face and a thin rim light from the headlamp edge the hard hat and his profile. From 3.0s, as the phone rises, its screen adds a second light on his face and chest: soft, close, and changing between magenta, warm orange, violet-blue and bright warm white with every swipe, once every 0.8 seconds. In the low three-quarter shot the colored light falls on the near cheek, jaw and chin, the underside of the hard hat brim and the shirt, while the far side of his face stays in soft shadow, which gives the face modeling and depth. The colored light spills onto the tunnel ceiling and nearby floor and stays inside the tunnel. No icy blue tint appears anywhere inside the tunnel.
Zone 2, the undug zone (everything above, below and to the right of the tunnel in the final shot, 5.6s to 9.0s): the diamond mass glows with a cool icy blue light coming from deep inside the heap. Light refracts through the transparent gems, every polished facet catches sharp white highlights, and small star-glints and rainbow dispersion flecks sparkle on the edges. This glow stops exactly at the thin dirt layers around the tunnel and does not cross into it. The thin dirt walls between the zones stay dark brown and unlit by the diamonds.
The brown dirt reads as matte dry soil in contrast to the glassy, brilliant diamonds.

AUDIO
Close, heavy thuds of metal into dirt, crumbling soil, labored breathing loud in the confined space, the clank of the dropped pickaxe, a soft thud and a long exhale as he lies down. From 2.8s: the rustle of the phone leaving a pocket. At 4.6s a short, warm, amused laugh through the nose. At the 5.6s cut the tunnel sound drops to muffled room tone with the faint thumb swipes continuing, and a faint crystalline shimmer from the diamonds that grows slightly with the zoom out until the end.

STYLE
Live-action photoreal cinematography in every shot, including the final one. Real skin, real fabric, real soil and real gemstones with realistic textures, depth, shadows and subtle film grain. Smooth, slow, deliberate cinematic camera movement in every shot. The final shot looks like a real photographed cut-away of the ground, filmed on a real cinema camera with natural depth of field.

OUTPUT SETTINGS
16:9 horizontal, 9 seconds, real-time speed throughout.

POSITIVE LOCKS
The man's face, yellow hard hat, headlamp, shirt, black tie and grey trousers stay identical to <<<image_1>>> in every shot. The headlamp stays switched on at the front of the hard hat and is the main light in the tunnel. The pickaxe stays identical to <<<image_2>>> and lies dark and still on the floor after being dropped. From 3.0s to the last frame he lies on his back on the tunnel floor and never sits up, with his head toward the dirt wall, legs to the left and his left hand behind his head. There is exactly one phone in the video, held upright above his face in his right hand from 3.3s to the last frame, and no phone ever lies on the floor. He is scrolling a vertical video feed with long thumb swipes, never typing. In the second shot he shows a big, clearly visible grin with teeth and a short laugh from 4.0s to 5.6s, face in low three-quarter view at about 45°, placed on the left third of the frame, never centered and never a straight-on front view. All camera moves are slow, smooth and at constant speed: the pan and tilt in shot 1, the push-in and arc in shot 2, and the zoom out in shot 3. The earth is dry brown dirt with pebbles and roots. In the final shot a long, narrow tunnel runs in from beyond the left edge of the frame to the thin dirt wall at its right end, with no wall, no diamonds and no closed end on its left side. The man lies near the right end of the tunnel, and small realistic blue faceted diamonds, as in <<<image_3>>>, fill every other part of the frame above, below and to the right of the tunnel in every frame of the zoom, with no gaps. The dirt wall between his head and the diamonds on the right stays only a few centimeters thick. The tunnel is lit by the headlamp plus the shifting colored phone light, and the diamond glow stays outside it. The final shot is a straight-on side view that stays photoreal, three-dimensional and live-action for the full 3.4 seconds, ending exactly on the wide composition of <<<image_3>>>. The diamonds stay hidden inside the earth until the 5.6s cut and sit completely still. Only two cuts occur in the whole video, at 3.5s and 5.6s.

The next one goes out by email.
